See you in the mountains!

“What is Oak Hall?”

As the Oak Hall Summer 2010 begins to gather momentum, we’d love to tell you what we’re all about…

God’s beautiful world awaiting exploration.

From the beaches of Spain to the mountains of Switzerland, from the deserts of North Africa to the springs in Northern Israel, God speaks of His majesty and power through the world He has made. A tapestry of diverse cultures, languages and landscapes: Oak Hall Expeditions takes people around our wonderful planet.

The cutting edge of the expeditions: clear and helpful Bible teaching. God speaks through His word.

The focal point of all of Oak Hall’s expeditions is the Bible teaching presented each evening. Away from the humdrum of ‘normal’ life, with God’s Word open and being explained by a faithful Bible teacher, God draws those who know Him into a deeper relationship, and others to that place of responding to His call on their lives.

Meeting others: new connections and an adventure shared.

Great friendships develop in the action of Oak Hall Expeditions. For many, it is a great encouragement to spend time with others who love the Lord Jesus. For some, it is a first insight into the reality of Christian fellowship. Often, these connections last long after an expedition has finished.

From small beginnings… a long and exciting history.

Originally conceived to meet the need for Bible teaching and Christian friendship in a camp-type context for those in their twenties and thirties, the first expedition left in a second-hand ambulance in the early 1960s. Since then, Oak Hall Expeditions have slowly grown to today, when around 10,000 people come away annually – now by air or in new air-conditioned, state-of-the-art coaches.

The central aim and prayer remains: to see men and women encouraged in their walk with the Lord Jesus, and return to support their home churches and reach out to their neighbours.

A team dedicated to the vision of seeing the Lord Jesus glorified.

The team behind Oak Hall Expeditions is a network of volunteers, some of whom pray towards and invest into just one of these key expeditions each year. There is also a small core full-time team based in the beautiful Oak Hall conference centre, set in the hills of Kent – more about them here

Partnering mission from Serbia to Thailand.

Through the growing number of worldwide connections, God has opened the door for Oak Hall to be involved in grass-roots mission work in a wide number of varied places. In the ‘80s, this included bringing aid and Bibles into then-communist Poland. In the ‘90s, the establishing of a Bible school in the post-war Balkans. More recent opportunities include work in Thailand, Peru, and the Middle East.

Getting involved with Oak Hall Expeditions.

Visit www.oakhall.co.uk – or get in touch and ask Oak Hall for the latest brochure – to see the vast range of expeditions planned for this year. Pray about bringing a number of people from your church. Consider being involved as a team member for one particular week in the year.

Please pray for this work: that many would grow closer to the Lord Jesus as they explore His beautiful world, listen to His word taught, and share adventure with His people.

Volcanic Ash Clouds don’t stop Oak Hall! A Spectacular end to Winter 2010.

Oak Hall SkiingWe have had an excellent ski season.  Approaching 4,000 people have been in the mountains experiencing God’s creation, excellent Bible teaching and friendship…

On Sunday, the last group returned home with stories of great adventures!

Despite flights being grounded across Europe, we were able to re-route a number of our Oak Hall vehicles to bring everyone safely home.

On Thursday 6th May – the first Thursday of the month – we have a time of thanksgiving as we reflect on and give thanks to God for the fruitful winter season that has just finished… all are very welcome to join us at Otford Manor at 8pm for this important event!

Oak Hall Winter 2010 is on schedule!

There’s been a lot of publicity about the Eurostar having problems in the “Chunnel”.

This post is to let you know that Oak Hall Winter 2010 is on schedule!

Following our taste of snow these last few days, we’re just looking forward to get to the Alps all the more!

The “Shuttle” – the train that takes coaches through the tunnel (a different sort of train from the Eurostar) is now working without problems and our Austrian Zillertal group yesterday had an easy crossing.

All of our Oak Hall departure and arrival times are as scheduled unless we make an announcement here on the blog or directly to our guests.

On the night that 2000 people were stuck in the tunnel, there were no “Oak Hall-ers” inside but for the Lauterbrunnen group travelling that evening, this caused a long delay.  The problem of crossing the channel was solved through using a ferry. The group was full of extremely positive and enthusiastic people who enjoyed lashings of hot chocolate and extra carols…

Thank you for keeping involved through this blog – we will keep on keeping you posted!

With warm (but snowy) greetings from all here at Oak Hall!
